I’ve noticed when people want to criticize me on social media they make fun of my last name. Which lots of people like to tell me I should change. Grossman is a Jewish last name. I am proud of it. It’s the last name of my great grandfather who came to this country in steerage 1/
— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) October 16, 2019Grossman was the name he was given at Ellis Island. Many Jewish people have felt like they had to change their last names to assimilate. My family chose to never do that. And I never ever would. I am so grateful for everything they sacrificed and am honored to share their name 2/
— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) October 16, 2019When a person tries to diminish me by mocking my last name it disrespects my culture and the long line of survivors I proudly descend from. Also grow up. If you make fun of my last name you are garbage and it’s actually completely anti Semitic and you can kindly fuck right off 3/
— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) October 16, 2019In response, her co-star Sarah Paulson responded, “I’m ready to fight. Point me in the right direction.”
Grossman also brought us our favorite celebrity Rosh Hashanah greeting a few weeks ago, tweeting, “Shana Tova to everyone except Donald Trump, his entire administration and every single person who defends him. Hoping 5780 brings health happiness and a new President.”I’m ready to fight. Point me in the right direction— Sarah Paulson (@MsSarahPaulson) October 16, 2019
She is annoyed with the eight nights of Hanukkah:
I think I speak for all jewish parents when I say I NEED HANUKAH TO BE OVER NOW. THE PRESSURE OF 8 NIGHTS OF GIFTS IS BREAKING ME DOWN.— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) December 7, 2018
And, perhaps most relatable of all, she used to think that Frankenstein was Jewish. (I mean, if we’re speaking about Jewish last names… Frankenstein. It’s even in “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.”)Nothing makes me happier then the Israeli athletes. Athletic Jews!!!!!— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) July 28, 2012
But, on a more serious note, we are grateful Leslie Grossman is using her platform to call out antisemitism. As a child I identified with Frankenstein because I thought he was Jewish— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) January 8, 2017
As a Jewish person I don’t need Trump and his garbage supporters telling me what is anti-Semitic if I wanted their opinion the subject would be taking away women’s rights to autonomy over their own bodies and gravy recipes— Leslie Grossman (@MissLeslieG) August 15, 2019
And still the racists come. Just got called an unruly animal that should be caged. Yet I'm kind and peace-loving. Yay ameriKKKa! 😒— yvette nicole brown (@YNB) July 17, 2016
Amen, Leslie, amen.
