Stockholm - New Swedish foreign minister Ann Linde has angered officials in Jerusalem by claiming, in response to a parliamentary query in Stockholm, that the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement was not antisemitic but a legitimate and non-violent movement, according to Yediot Ahronot.

Linde has made it clear that she and her government do not support boycotts and even supports the expansion of trade and cooperation with Israel, but emphasizes that she believes boycotts are a legitimate political means as part of a non-violent political struggle for human rights, democracy, freedom of speech and cessation of "the occupation". Responding to pro-Israel members of parliament who remind her of the antisemitic nature of the BDS movement, which also uses antisemitic motifs in its propaganda, Linde responded, "We support these organizations to promote their contribution to the free and pluralistic society, and not because we support the BDS movement or its activists."
