Darmstadt - In the night of Tuesday, unknown persons severely damaged the menorah at the Liberal Synagogue memorial on the grounds of the municipal clinic on Bleichstrasse in Darmstadt.
Apparently, the massive stainless steel tube to which the seven-armed candlestick was connected was subjected to brute force, so that the metal rod was badly deformed. The artwork withstood the act of violence and did not break.
The city of Darmstadt filed a complaint with the police, it said in a message on Tuesday evening.
