Pianellu (Haute-Corse) - The chestnut tree of Pianellu (Haute-Corse), planted in 2010 in memory of Anne Franck and place of commemorations was degraded during the night from Saturday to Sunday.

All the bark on the underside has been peeled off, potentially threatening the tree's survival. The sub-prefect of Corte, Ronan Leaustic, went there to see the damage.

"Because if acts of this nature are still present, it is because there is still a great deal of work to be done to raise awareness. "

This chestnut tree, donated to the village of Pianellu by the Anne Franck House Museum in Amsterdam in 2010, was cut from the tree that the young Jewish girl saw from the clandestine apartment where she was hidden from 1942 to 1944 The 15-year-old girl died in 1945 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.

If the organizers believe that this degradation was motivated by antisemitism, there is no evidence yet to establish the exact causes and circumstances of this act of vandalism. A complaint must be filed, and an investigation should be opened.
