The Lower Saxony antisemitism commissioner presents his first annual report

The Lower Saxony commissioner against antisemitism and for the protection of Jewish life, Dr. Franz Rainer Enste, presented his first annual report, “Jewish life in Lower Saxony - enriching and worth protecting” („J├╝disches Leben in Niedersachsen – bereichernd und sch├╝tzenswert“).

In his annual report, Dr. Enste explains the focus of his work since his appointment in the fall of 2019, and gives an overview of the impressive diversity of current Jewish life and the current manifestations of antisemitism in the state of Lower Saxony.

Another focus of the report is the presentation of the many steps and initiatives taken by the state and civil society in the fight against antisemitism.

Dr. Enste emphasized that the fight against antisemitism must be carried out on the basis of a comprehensive strategy in many different areas in addition to the "classic" tools of prevention and prosecution, and continue to implement entirely new creative approaches, especially in the fight against antisemitism.

Dr. Enste also deals with the fact that antisemitism comes in forms that are difficult or impossible to enforce in a free society through criminal law. In these cases it is precisely this free society that is required to respond.
