The Community of Sant'Egidio Adopted the IHRA definition of antisemitism

The Community of Sant'Egidio
The Community of Sant'Egidio announced on July 15 that it had adopted the definition of antisemitism of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

“For years Sant'Egidio has been promoting with conviction, among young people and not only, a culture of encounter and knowledge, to overcome all forms of antisemitism and racism, declared the Community, But it also recalls the need to monitor the persistence of antisemitic prejudices, the spread of intolerant slogans and attitudes in the public space and on the web, accompanied by discrimination and social exclusion of minorities and others, and on the growth of nationalist, sovereign and xenophobic movements in several European countries".

With this initiative, the historic Catholic organization renews its active commitment in the fight against antisemitism and against all forms of discrimination. “The reflection on the Holocaust, prepared by decades of antisemitism and the preaching of racial hatred, was decisive for peace and reconciliation in Europe after the Second World War, continues the note. But the memory of the abyss of Auschwitz still constitutes an unavoidable warning for the future of the world, particularly important precisely at the moment in which the generation of survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust is disappearing”.
