France - A motorist Shouted "Heil Hitler" to a Jewish family leaving a synagogue

Deuil-la-Barre, Paris
- A woman cursed a group of Jewish people on Saturday at midday in Deuil-la-Barre. According to the Union of Jewish communities of Val-d'Oise (UCJ95), it is about a family who left the synagogue of Enghien-les-Bains and who returned to their home.

One of the members, Jonathan, a 33-year-old devotee, had his white kippah on his head. It was at 5, rue Eugène Lamarre in Deuil-la-Barre, that they saw a motorist coming out of a parking lot and then reversing to get within earshot of the group. They then hear him say ten times: "Heil Hitler", before adding: "You Jews, you are the shame of France".

Shocked, Jonathan went to lodge a complaint with the Enghien-les-Bains police station. He was able to describe this woman who is European in type, has long, blond hair and appears to be around 40 years old. He was also able to give the type of vehicle and the license plate number that his brother, who was also present at the scene, had noted. Police were able to identify a suspect.

This is a 58-year-old woman who lives in Enghien-les-Bains. She was arrested and taken into police custody. According to our information, she admitted to having uttered these words considering that they fall within the scope of freedom of expression.

However, the law provides for up to six months in prison and a fine of 22,500 euros for public insults on the grounds of belonging or not "to a specific ethnicity, nation, race or religion". She was summoned to be tried before the 6th chamber of the Pontoise Criminal Court on October 26.
