USA - Man sentenced for hate crime involving antisemitic threats to neighbors, breaking window

A former Columbus man who pleaded guilty to criminally interfering with the right to fair housing was sentenced Tuesday in federal court.

Douglas G. Schifer, 66, of Bucyrus, was sentenced to six months in prison, a $50,000 fine, and one year of supervised release, according to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. His charges stem from antisemitic threats he made to his neighbors.

Court documents said he threatened his neighbors and guests because of their religion during an outdoor gathering on November 7, 2020. Court document said Schifer said in part, "it's no wonder Hitler burned you people in ovens," and "Jews burn, you belong in ovens."

He also broke one of their windows and spat at one of the neighbors.
